Difícilmente nadie habrá podido escapar de escuchar “Don’t Cry for me Argentina”, incluida en la BSO del film ‘Evita’, con la que Madonna nos torturó, perdón, nos obsequió a finales de 1996 y comienzos de 1997. Y este éxito bien pudo no serlo ya que los rectores de Warner Bros. Records no querían lanzarla como sencillo del álbum oficial de la banda sonora de esta película. Sin embargo Madonna, Pablo Flores y Javier Garza, decidieron grabar una versión dance de la canción, dando origen así a la famosa versión “Miami Spanglish Mix”, haciendo una mezcla entre los idiomas inglés y español. Alan Parker dio su aprobación a esta nueva versión de la canción y al poco tiempo ya se la podía escuchar en discotecas y estaciones de radio, resultando ser un éxito. De manera que la discográfica no tuvo otra opción que publicar “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina” como segundo sencillo del álbum.
La canción fue número 1 en Francia, curiosamente fue la segunda vez que un single de Madonna llegaba a esta posición, el anterior fue “La Isla Bonita”. Además entró en el top-10 de la lista Billboard 100 Hot y al 1 en la de Hot Dance. En el Reino Unido llegó al tercer puesto y vendió la nada despreciable cifra de 300.000 singles.
